Dredging off Cockenzie, ca. 1873

So how was oyster dredging done in the Firth? Here’s an image from J. G. Bertram’s The Harvest of the Sea. London, John Murray, 1873.

  • Hi Bob,

my [artner Dave Cooper who rows for POrtobello skiff club suggested I contact you.

I am interested in running a workshop for the Scottish Storytelling Centre , as part of their courses and workshops programme. I would like the workshop to be on traditional music and stories of the sea, and incorporating an element around dredge songs.

I realise that you are in the U.S and wondered if you could reccomend anyone in Scotland , or not too far away who would be a good workshop leader for this? We would hope to run the event in JUne 2013 , possibly at the Fisheries Museum in Anstruther.

MAny thanks, I look forward to hearing fromyou.

    All the best
